Exeter Law firm shortlisted for national award

An Exeter law firm has been shortlisted in the prestigious national Family Law Awards, beating off competition from all over the UK.

The Family Law Company with offices at Southernhay Gardens in Exeter has been nominated in The Family Law Firm of the Year category. The winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Brewery in the city of London in October.

Business Development Director Rachel Buckley (pictured) said they were delighted at the news.

‘This is real recognition for us,’ she said. ‘We pride ourselves on a quality of service that goes way beyond the mechanics of family law. Our clients are usually visiting us at one of the most difficult times in their lives and making decisions that will have long lasting effects. We work very hard to make the process as straightforward as possible, and support them all the way.’

The company, formerly known as Hartnell Chanot, was formed in 1991 by Managing Director Norman Hartnell with an ethos that remains today, not to focus on blame but on problem solving.

As Hartnell Chanot, it has grown to become the largest family law firm in the south west with offices in Exeter and in Plymouth. In 2013 it rebranded as The Family Law Company by Hartnell Chanot, and currenly employs 81 staff.

It’s the second time the company has been shortlisted for this award, reaching the final stages in 2011. The judging panel will be looking for testimonials, quality of service, recent reported cases, initiatives benefitting the local community, range of expertise as well as training and career prospects for employees.

They were also shortlisted for the customer service category in Exeter Business awards in 2012. Two employees also gained honours in the Law Society Excellence Awards in 2011, Alexandra Boardman was highly commended in the Legal Executive of the Year category and Director Stephen Sowden was nominated for the Lawyer of the Year award for his work in securing access rights for grandparents.
