Development event declared a great success

Staff from some of Exeter’s top employers honed their skills at a development evening arranged by a city networking group.

The event, which was organised by the Exeter PA Network, saw more than 50 members attend presentations and training sessions at County Hall.

The network, which is made up of admin professionals from across Exeter and the surrounding  areas has around 400 members. As well as providing training, support and social networking, the group also raises money for charity. This year it is aiming to raise £7,500 for local charity, BEEP (Business Empowering Employment Programme).

Kim Glover, who is Executive Assistant to Malcolm Dickinson, the Managing Partner of Michelmores LLP, established the Exeter PA Network in 2012. She said they were delighted with the response to the event.

She said: ‘It was the second development event we have held this year. We decided to focus on branding and were lucky enough to have Jonathan Alder (from Alder and Alder) as a speaker at our first event in February. At our recent session we heard from Angela Rimmer who is a strategic marketing consultant and business coach. She talked about the importance of creating online brands and gave advice on the smartest ways to interact online.’

The presentation was followed by workshops about the use of Twitter and LinkedIn for business, which were run by Cosmic and Koru Connections. Photographer Matt Austin also attended to provide the delegates with professional headshots for their social media profiles.

Kim added: ‘We certainly felt it was ambitious to include this much in a development evening - but it paid off and was a real success. The feedback has been great with everyone saying they really built on what they knew, or learnt completely new skills.

The Exeter PA Network runs free and low cost training sessions, development workshops and social events for its members.

Kim added: ‘We are so pleased with how the network has grown over the last four years. We offer real value for our members and also for their employers, who can access high quality training and expertise for their staff.’

The Exeter PA Network is organising its inaugural development conference with the Cardiff and Bristol PA Networks. It takes place on Friday, October 14, 2016 in Bristol. For more information visit www.exeterpanetwork.com/events/
