A new £8 million student housing development in Exeter is gearing up for the next intake of students after local contractors Midas Construction finished the 159 room residence this month ahead of the new academic year starting in September.

As part of the project, Midas also took down the former cricket pavilion at the Prince of Wales Road venue, replacing it with a new, state-of-the art, two-storey pavilion complete with changing rooms, kitchen, bar and office space which was all built in conjunction with the student accommodation site nearby.

The site was built on behalf of developers Yelverton Properties and their development and funding partners, Campus Development Management Ltd and Curlew Capital. The management company are now in place at the new building and preparing for the new academic year.

Andrew Davis from Yelverton Properties said that the new building was a fantastic addition to the city and the project had brought with it excellent sports facilities for Exeter Cricket Club. “I am delighted that we were able to not only create much needed purpose built student accommodation, but also develop the nearby pavilion into a wonderful new sports facilities for local teams.”

Derek Quinn, executive director at Midas Construction, said: “This is an exciting new building which will provide sector leading modern accommodation for those studying at the nearby University of Exeter. As a local company based in Exeter we were delighted to engage with local sub-contractors and host a number of apprenticeships during the delivery of this project.”
