Repairs to Exeter Quay footbridge start today

Work starts today (13 March) on repairing the Mallison footbridge at Exeter Quay.

Repairs to the bridge, which pedestrians and cyclists use to cross a leat beside the River Exe, are expected to take two to three weeks and the City Council hopes to get it open again by Easter.

The City Council was forced to close the bridge last week because of safety concerns after an inspection revealed some rotten timbers. A diversion is currently in place around the back of Samuel Jones Smoke & Ale House and into Commercial Road next to the Custom House.

The ongoing repairs will be a temporary measure while the Council looks at a permanent replacement as part of a potential enhancement to the riverside walk. Discussions are planned with various stakeholders.

The Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by the closure of the bridge.
