Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision near Ottery St Mary are trying to trace the deceased man's next of kin.

Following formal identification, the man has been named as Robert Christopher Trott, 53, from Exeter.

Extensive enquiries have been carried out to locate Robert’s next of kin but so far have been unsuccessful.

Officers believe Robert has a brother in the Exeter or Plymouth area and are appealing for him or any other family members to get in touch.

The collision happened shortly before 6.40pm on Thursday 16 June 2016, on the B3174 just off the A30 at the Daisymount roundabout.

A white Nissan Kubistar van, travelling from Ottery St Mary, was involved in a serious single vehicle collision.

Police, fire and ambulance attended the scene. The road was closed while a forensic examination of the scene took place and it was reopened shortly before midnight.

As a result of the collision, Robert, the only occupant in the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police investigation into the collision continues, and on conclusion, a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Anyone who can assist officers with locating Robert’s brother, or has any information about the collision, is asked to email 101@dc.police.uk or call 101, quoting reference 778 of 16 June.
