The RSPCA is appealing for information after 31 young mice were found abandoned in a cage in Exeter on Thursday. (27 April.)

A passer-by found the dumped cage on the pavement on Buddle Lane at around 1pm, and quickly took the mice to a local vets.

RSPCA inspector Marije Zwager is keen to find out more about what happened to the little mice and who may have left them on the roadside.

She said: “Dumping animals like this is really cruel and these poor mice were so vulnerable left out on the pavement. A man found them and took them to the vets, and thankfully they all seem to be relatively healthy and alert.

“The cage they had been left in had food and water in it, so it’s possible their owner had become overwhelmed by the number of mice and decided to give them up, however, doing it in the way they did is completely unacceptable.

“Any with any information as to who owned these mice and abandoned them can call me in complete confidence on our inspector’s appeal line number on 0300 123 8018.”

The 31 mice have now been taken to RSPCA Little Valley centre in Exeter to be looked after. If nobody claims them, they can be found loving new homes.
