Action has been taken against almost a dozen young motorists following a crackdown on antisocial driving at Exmouth seafront.

Exmouth Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out two operations over the summer to target young car enthusiasts who traditionally gather at the seafront.

The operation, run with the assistance of roads policing and response officers, was conducted in response to concerns from the public about speeding and dangerous driving.

Numerous stop checks were carried out and words of advice given to drivers. Further action was taken against 11 drivers, all aged between 18 and 25.

One driver was reported to court for dangerous driving and another for driving without insurance; his vehicle was also seized.

A further nine drivers were issued with penalty tickets for various driving offences and a vehicle defect notice was also issued.

PC Kylie Lynch, Exmouth Town Neighbourhood Beat Manager, said: “Exmouth seafront is an attraction to car enthusiasts every year and local residents have voiced concerns regarding the manner of driving which in some cases has continued into the early hours.

“While we don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun, we want people to drive safely and within the law and to be respectful of the quality of life for local residents.

“Exmouth police would like to thank the local council for its assistance with the car parks and local residents for their support during the operations over the last few months.

“We will continue working with other agencies to make the seafront safer for everyone and further operations will be carried out.”

Any issues or concerns should be reported to the police via email on 101@dc.police.uk or by telephone on 101.
