The C Group inspires local firm

Devon-based Royal Marine Commandos charity, The C Group, recently received a welcome financial boost thanks to a £1,000 cheque presentation by commercial vehicle accessories manufacturer, Van Guard.

The C Group, Van Guard’s nominated charity for 2015, is a dynamic and ambitious organisation that provides a vital support network for serving and former Royal Marines in need. In recognition of the incredible role that Royal Marines play for Queen and Country, The C Group helps individuals to overcome adversity through creating opportunities befitting their extensive transferable skills via business networks.

Van Guard MD, Barry Woodward, says: “The C Group is a charity that is close to my heart for a number of reasons. They have big ambitions and aim to achieve much more than the usual fundraising goals. They seek to connect with larger businesses and persuade them of the merits in offering stimulating, challenging and motivational opportunities to trustworthy, committed, hard-working people with the capacity to lead, manage and deliver. These skills are implicit within Royal Marines.

“It is difficult for a company the size and type that Van Guard is to help in this aspect of those aims and objectives, so it is great that we can at least assist in other ways and go some way to supporting our dedicated Royal Marines in need.”

Having recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, the Royal Marine Commando Training Centre in Lympstone is renowned for pushing recruits to the very limit of physical endurance, providing the toughest training in the British military and possibly the world. However, there is much support needed when injured Marines are no longer able to serve, and this is where The C Group comes in. The charity limits its expenditure to support serving or former Royal Marines, and their families in conditions of need, and nothing more.

Van Guard has recently been awarded the prestigious Made in Britain accreditation – the only manufacturer to hold this marque, which has inspired them to promote ‘all things British.’ Barry goes on to explain: “Exeter is a thriving place to live and work and as a family firm Van Guard is proud to be a part of that. The Lympstone Centre staff are very much a part of this community and I hope we can do our bit to encourage other businesses to show their support for this excellent charity.”
