Work to start on Newcourt’s new primary school
Devon County Council and the Diocese of Exeter are pleased to announce that they have given the go ahead for construction to start on Trinity Church of England VA Primary and Nursery School in Newcourt, Exeter.
Originally scheduled to open in 2016, the school has been subject to delays due to significant planning issues.
Through careful negotiations, Devon County Council has now successfully resolved the issues to enable construction to start.
The school will welcome its first reception pupils in September 2017 in temporary accommodation within Newcourt. It is anticipated that construction will commence in February 2017 and the new school building will be completed by Easter 2018.
Parents and carers who wish to apply for a place should do so through the normal Devon County Council admissions process. Those wishing to amend their preferences can do so until admissions close on 15 January 2017.
John Searson, Director of Education for the Diocese of Exeter said: “We recognise that the uncertainty about the school has been very worrying for local families so I am delighted that the new school will open in September 2017.
“We are now working hard to establish the very best learning environment for our first cohort of children and look forward to working in partnership with local families to realise our vision for an outstanding school to serve the emerging and vibrant Newcourt community”.

“I’m delighted that building work can now begin on the permanent building but that we can offer places from September 2017 in temporary accommodation.
“Devon County Council has a close partnership with the Diocese of Exeter and I am sure that Trinity will be an excellent school from the start.”
